Kohli was recently named in the T20I team of 2022 by ICC for the very first time . Before being named in the ICC T20I team for the very first time, Kohli had already featured thrice in the ICC Test Team of The Year (2017, 2018 and 2019) and six times in the ICC ODI Team of The Year (2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).

Kohli was included in the ICC T20I Team of the 2022 following his superb show in the ICC T20 World Cup. In that tournament, Kohli’s best innings was the unbeaten 82 against Pakistan which helped India register a thrilling win over their arch rivals. Overall, Kohli had scored a total of 296 runs and finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer. However for India the journey ended at the semi-final stage. During the course of the tournament, Kohli also brought an end to his century drought of three years with a magnificent century against Afghanistan.

ICC reveals T20I team of the year
Virat Kohli was one of the three Indians to be named in the ICC T20I team of the year. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya were the other two cricketers to find a place in the playing XI. Jos Buttler who enjoyed an incredible season as player and skipper was named the captain of the team. Buttler had led England to the World T20 title. Buttler’s teammate Sam Curran also found a place in the team, while Joshua Little was the only Ireland player to be picked by ICC.
