  • Carlos Alcaraz has been sensational in 2022 as he has shown terrific performances in the ATP Tour this year.
  • He started the year ranked World No.32 and made rapid strides by winning four titles so far.
  • He won the Miami Open title, becoming the youngest player to win the title in the tournament and he followed it up with victory in the Madrid Open title, becoming the second youngest to win two ATP Masters 1000 trophies.
  • With his performances few weeks before the US Open he breached into the Top 5 in the world rankings becoming the youngest player since Rafael Nadal to enter the Top 5 in the world.
  • Now having reached his maiden Grand Slam final, he is now eyeing to become the youngest ever player to win the US Open title and also can create history by becoming the youngest-ever player to become the World No.1 in the history of the Open era.

Carlos Alcaraz: Road to final

  • Alcaraz started the US Open this year by receiving a walkover from the injured Sebastian Baez after he led the match 7-5, 7-5, 2-0.
  • In the second and third round he clinched straight set victories over Federico Coria and Jenson Brooksby.
  • In the fourth round he faced a biggest challenge from senior pro Marin Cilic, Alcaraz had to dig deep to take the match into the five-setter before eventually winning it.
  • In the quarterfinal he was up against Jannik Sinner against whom he lost twice this year. As expected the match went into five sets and was also the longest match at the US Open but Alcaraz held his nerve to prevail in the contest.
  • In the semifinal he faced local favourite Frances Tiafoe and yet another five-setter ensued and the Spaniard managed to win it to inch much closer to winning his maiden Grand Slam title.

  • At the start of the season, Casper Ruud wouldn’t have thought that he would have the opportunity to become the World No.1 at a touching distance. But with his consistent performances throughout the season he now has a chance to be on top of the world rankings if he wins the final against Alcaraz.
  • Casper Ruud can benefit from the fact that he already has the experience of playing in a Grand Slam final earlier this year at the French Open.
  • One can expect that with that experience he would approch the upcoming contest which is still the big match of his career so far with much calmness.
  • Ruud chases one more history as he is eyeing to become the first-ever man from Norway to win the Grand Slam title.
  • The Norwegian has won the Argentina Open title earlier this year on hard court, while he has also won the Geneva Open title and the Gtsaad Open title.
  • He is now one step away from claiming the biggest victory of his career and will look to get the first victory in his third attempt against Carlos Alcaraz.

Casper Ruud: Road to final

  • He enters the contest after clincing a four-setter against
  • Ruud made it to his maiden US Open semifinal after defeating 13th seed Matteo Berrettini in straight sets in the quarterfinal.
  • The Norwegian started the tournament with a straight set victory over Kyle Edmund in the first round.
  • In the second round he clinched a four set victory over Tim van Rijthoven. Against 29th seed Tommy Paul in the third round, he had to play five sets to finally advance to the fourth round.
  • In the third round, he faced a four set victory over Corentin Moutet to enter his maiden US Open quarterfinal.
  • Having won the Argentina Open title on hardcourts earlier this year, Ruud is finally looking to win one of he biggest hard court tournament title.

Alcaraz vs Ruud Head-to-Head: This will be the third time both the players will face each other in the ATP Tour. On the previous two occassions, Alcaraz clinched straight set victory over the Norwegian. They last met at the Miami Masters this year in the final and Alcaraz went on to win his first Masters 1000 title. Alcaraz yet again enters the contest as the favourite but having played three back-to-back absorbing five-setters it remains to be seen if fatigue will have a role to play for the Spaniard. Ruud has been in a great touch and the Norwegian will look to play to his best in the important match of his career. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if Alcaraz had to play another five-setter.
