Casper Ruud vs Matteo Berrettini
Casper Ruud advanced to his maiden US Open semifinal on Tuesday as he defeated 13th seed Matteo Berrettini in straight sets in the quarterfinal.
After winning the first two sets comfortably, Ruud was trailing in the third set but the Norwegian made a brilliant comeback to clinch the third set via a tie-breaker.
The Norwegian won the first five games breaking Berrettini twice and took the first set 6-1. He clinched the second 6-4. But Berrettini, who was sidelined a number of times this season due to injury or illness, slowly began to find his usual level and appeared to have cracked the code in the third set.
He broke Ruud in the second game and saved four breaks in the third. Ruud mustered a terrific comeback, breaking Berrettini in the ninth and never trailed in the tiebreak.
Nick Kyrgios vs Karen Khachanov
After clinching one of his biggest victories of his career in a Grand Slam by defeating World No.1 and defending champion Daniil Medvedev, red-hot Nick Kyrgios is now eyeing a spot in the semifinal.
Kyrgios faces Karen Khachanov in the last-8. Kyrgios has the most wins on the ATP Tour ever since the French Open this year and he has dropped just two sets in his four rounds at the US Open so far. He gears up to continue his form in what would be his maiden appearance in the quarterfinal at the Flushing Meadows. Meanwhile, Karen Khachanov stunned 12th seed Pablo Carreno Busta to set up clash with Kyrgios.
Khachanoc too will be making his maiden appearance in the US Open quarterfinal and faces a big task against the Australian.
Ons Jabeur vs Ajla Tomljanovic
Tunisian fifth seed Ons Jabeur overcame her own frustrations to reach the U.S. Open semi-final by beating Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4 7-6(4) on Tuesday, becoming the first Arab woman to make the final four at the New York hard court major.
Previously, she joined Maryna Godwin (1968) and Amanda Coetzer (1994, 1996 and 1998) as the only African women to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open. She’s now been to the second week of all four majors and is trying to mirror her run to the final at Wimbledon, where she lost to Elena Rybakina.
