The situation needs to be cleared at the earliest as the draw is set to take place on Thursday. Will his name be there?

Why this furore? Almost two weeks back, the Serbian was set to feature in the competition in the United States, which has strict health laws regarding Covid-19. But they also decided to relax the guidelines for people who are still not unvaccinated.

What has happened now? The orgainisers of the US Open are planning to ensure that all sorts of Covid-19 rules are followed. It is simple. If the proper protocols are followed, the Serbian ace will not be able to feature in the year’s last Grand Slam.

Djokovic has not been vaccinated, which is no rocket science. It is for the same reason, his participation has been limited to countries, which are lenient on their Covid vaccination laws. Unfortunately, the US Open orgainisers are in no mood to make it an exception for Djokovic as well.

What is the stand by US Authorities? Can Djokovic play in the US Open?

As it stands, no. Djokovic, who was still on the US Open entry list on Monday, has not been vaccinated against Covid-19 and since October 2021 the United States has not allowed non-vaccinated visitors to enter the country.

Is this new to Djokovic? The situation bagged headlines during the Australian Open. He was not allowed to compete in the Grand Slam in Australia. In fact, he had landed in the country for a brief period, but was deported back. Interestingly, it threw a bad light on Djokovic when news emerged that he had tested positive a couple of weeks back and even interacted with people during the time.
