- Anett Kontaveit started the year with a semifinal appearance at the Sydney International and she lost to Barbora Krejcikova in three sets.
- At the Australian Open, she was ousted from the second round after losing to unseeded Clara Tauson in straight sets.
- She won her maiden title this year at the St.Petersburg Open as she defeated top seed Maria Sakkari in a tight three setter at the final.
- She then finished as runner-up at the Qatar Open after losing the final to World No.1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets.
- She didn’t go past the second round at Indian Wells Masters and lost the opening round at Miami Open.
- She reached the quarterfinal at the Stuttgart Open and crashed out from the first round at Italian Open and French Open. She was the fifth seed at the French Open but lost to Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets in the opening round.
- She began the grass court season by bowing out from the second round at the Wimbledon.
- At the German Open, she reached the final but lost to unseeded Bernarda Pera in straight sets.
- Ahead of the US Open, she struggled for form as she crashed out from the first round at Canadian Open and faced second round defeat at Cincinnati Masters.
- She began the US Open by dropping just three games against Jaqueline Cristian in the first round to set up clash with Serena Williams in the second round.
