In the main event of UFC 284 in Perth on February 12, 2023, Alexander Volkanovski will face Islam Makhachev for the lightweight championship, although he seems unconcerned by the prospect. Featherweight kingpin Volkanovski will quit his natural weight class to move up to 155 lbs and take on the champion straight. He will have a different training camp for the bout for obvious reasons.
Talking to media in UFC 284 ticket sales press conference, Alexander Volkanovski said, “Stacked on that little bit of weight, put on that little bit of more muscle for the lightweight division, especially a guy like Islam [Makhachev] you know who is gonna be a very strong grappler. It’s gonna be a different preparation which excites me as well. I don’t want any other fight, but this and the UFC gave it to me. So I am very stoked for that and I can’t wait to, you know, make history here in Perth on February 12.”
