UFC Best Trilogies: Top 5 Trilogies in the UFC

5. Georges St-Pierre vs Matt Hughes:

Georges St-Pierre is one of the best fighters the UFC has ever seen. However, his biggest test in the promotion came against former champion Matt Hughes. Hughes and GSP went head-to-head thrice between 2004 and 2007. What puts this trilogy on the list is the fact that it was the making of GSP in the UFC. The loss in the first fight was his first loss in the UFC. However, he came back to win the second and the third. By then, it cemented him as one of the best in the world.

4. Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier:

At number four, we have one of the recent trilogies between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic. Both considered two of the best heavyweights, they battled each other thrice between 2018 and 2020. Cormier beat Miocic in the first fight and became a double champion. However, Miocic fought back and got his title by winning the next two fights.

3. Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin:

Another classic on the list is Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin. The two hard-hitting fighters faced each other between 2005 and 2012. Thus, it was a long rivalry. However, despite three bouts, there was no knockout. Even with a lot of bad blood, and intention, neither fighter could get the knockout. The first two ended in close split decisions, while Griffin won the third fight by unanimous decision.

2. Cain Velazquez vs Junior Dos Santos:

Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos fought each other thrice in one of the best trilogies in the heavyweight division. Velazquez took on Ds Santos for the first time after beating Brock Lesnar. So as a young undefeated champion, many expected Velazquez to steamroll Dos Santos. However, Dos Santos had other ideas and finished the fight in the first round with a vicious knockout. Despite this, Velazquez came back strongly and won the next two fights.

1. Randy Couture vs Chuck Liddell:

Number one has to be the trilogy that almost made the UFC what it is today. Couture and Liddell first met at UFC 49. And Couture used his wrestling to beat the hard-hitting Liddell. However, for the rematch, both fighters also coached on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. That was such a success that the second fight increased the PPV buys from 49,000 to over 200,000. Liddell won the second and set up a perfect trilogy that sold over 400,000 PPVs. And Liddell proved his worth with an incredible KO in round two.
