Sergei Pavlovich is eagerly awaiting his opportunity to challenge for the UFC heavyweight championship, but for the time being, he'll continue acting as Jon Jones' backup opponent when that fight takes place

Once more, Sergei Pavlovich has been listed as the backup for the UFC heavyweight title match.

When Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane square off for the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285, Pavlovich, who weighed in as a backup, will once more fill that position.

Sergei Pavlovich is eagerly awaiting his opportunity to challenge for the UFC heavyweight championship, but for the time being, he’ll continue acting as Jon Jones’ backup opponent when that fight takes place in November against Stipe Miocic.

The 31-year-old Russian, who has a six-fight winning streak in the UFC, will likely support the main event of UFC 295 between Jones and Miocic at Madison Square Garden in New York. Following an original report from Igor Lazorin on Instagram, sources on Wednesday provided MMA Fighting with confirmation of the information.

Who Will Be The Backup Fighter For Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic In UFC 295

Pavlovich weighs in as a potential backup for the second straight Jones title battle. When Jones made his comeback in March to face Ciryl Gane and crown a new heavyweight champion, he previously did the same.

Pavlovich has been a force of nature, earning six straight knockouts without having a single opponent make it through the first round, with the exception of a loss to Alistair Overeem in his UFC debut.

Pavlovich has destroyed former UFC heavyweight championship contenders Derrick Lewis, Curtis Blaydes, and Tai Tuivasa over the course of his last three fights, all in less than five minutes.

Pavlovich has almost certainly earned a crack at the heavyweight championship of his own, but Jones expressly wanted to face Miocic, the heavyweight champion with the longest active reign in UFC history.

Pavlovich will probably be the next in line to be the winner between Jones and Miocic in 2024 if he decides not to compete in November.
