Jiri Prochazka was looking forward to his first title defense against former champion Teixeira. And what promised to be a great fight is no longer happening after Prochazka suffered a horrible injury. The Czech fighter has since put out a statement about the incident.

Prochazka took to Instagram to announce he was not taking part in UFC 282 and expressed his disappointment. He also added, “I injured my shoulder and surgery is required, which will put me out of action for at least 6 months.”
“Knowing this information, I have decided, after consulting with UFC management, that due to this time constraint, I will not hold lightheavyweight division and will vacate the title.”
Therefore, this news confirmed that Prochazka would be out of action for a while. However, fans will respect the fact that he did not hold the division up.

Despite the injury and having to vacate his title, Prochazka remained upbeat about the situation. He posted another video to his Instagram account, apologizing to Teixeira and congratulating Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev on their title shot.
However, Prochazka added that he would come straight back for the title after he recovered and that he is chasing something more than just the UFC title. While fans can interpret this how they like, it is clear that Prochazka will be back to claim his belt as soon as he can.

Despite this, it is disappointing for Prochazka and for fans. One of the most exciting fighters in the division had to vacate his title because of an unfortunate injury. Only time will tell if Prochazka will return as the same fighter.
