Without any wins and at the bottom of the league, world champions France started the game on a fine note eager to score as fast as possible. However, Ralf Rangnick’s men put up an absolute masterclass in defense to keep the Les Blues from scoring in the opening half. In the opening minutes of the game, Kylian Mbapped put the ball at the back of the net but it was ultimately ruled out for an offside.
Austria resorted to defense and occasionally relied on counter-tactics. Just past the 23rd-minute mark, French defender Jules Kounde was replaced after the Barcelona defender pulled up his hamstring. William Saliba came on to replace the defender. Mbappe and Giroud combined well in their attacks but lacked finishing in the final third.
In the 36th minute, right in the middle of the box, Tchoumeni tried a bicycle which was met with a brilliant save from Pentz. Following this Griezmann attempted a simple tap-in but then again Pentz once again threw his body in front of the goal to keep the score level.

Starting off the second half saw France making a change in their goalkeeper. Alphanso Areola replaced Mike Maignan. The opening goal came in the 56th minute with a stunning solo goal from PSG forward Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe dribbled past 3-4 defenders to erupt the home crowd.
10 minutes later, France doubled their lead. Antoine Greizmann ran down the right flank and whipped in a deadly cross to find Giroud in the center of the box. The master in ariel duel, jumped higher than any Austrian defender to win the head and score the second goal for France.
Despite being 2-0 up, France continued their attack, eager to get more goals on board. Though the Les Blues carried their onslaught thoroughout the game, the Austrian defense survived the rampage and settled down to a 2-0 loss.
