Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu not stopping with 2nd Olympics medal, has her eyes set on Paris 2024, says ‘It’s a proud moment’- PV Sindhu created history on Sunday as she becomes the first female athlete to win two Olympic medals from India. The Indian badminton queen clinched a 21-13, 21-15 win over He Bing Jiao of China to win the bronze medal. It was PV Sindhu’s second Olympic medal after her silver at Rio 2016 after she lost to Carolina Marin in the final.

India at Tokyo Olympics LIVE: Having confirmed her bronze medal, PV Sindhu was elated to secure a finish on the podium and believed that it was a reward for her hard work over the years.
“It makes me feel really happy because I’ve worked hard for so many years. I had a lot of emotions going through me — should I be happy that I won bronze or sad that I lost the opportunity to play in the final? But overall, I had to close off my emotions for this one match and give it my best, my all and think about the emotions. I’m really happy and I think I’ve done really well. It’s a proud moment getting a medal for my country,” PV Sindhu was quoted by Badminton World Federation (BWF).
PV Sindhu added she had to be patient and keep her emotions in check as the stakes were high. The 26-year-old said that while she came into the game after her loss in the semis, it was a new day and it was crucial to hold on after he took her lead.
“It was a fresh game altogether, we both had losses yesterday and came back. For us, it was very important in getting a medal for the country and at the Olympics. It’s not easy. It’s a big thing. There were really long rallies but I had to be patient and calm. Even though I was leading, I did not relax,” PV Sindhu said.
India at Tokyo Olympics LIVE: Sindhu was visibly elated after she clinched her bronze medal and thanked her family and sponsors for the support they have shown in her. She said that she is cloud nine and will celebrate the bronze medal but will be back soon to start hunting for that elusive gold medal.
“I’m on cloud nine. I’m going to enjoy this moment. My family has worked hard for me and put in a lot of effort so I’m very thankful. And my sponsors have given me their best so I’d like to thank them and enjoy the moment. A lot of Indian fans showed me their love and support and I’m very thankful to each and every one of them. Definitely lots of love and support and kisses,” PV Sindhu said.
While Sindhu has etched her name in the record books, the 26-year-old is not resting on her laurels. Having clinched back to back medals in Olympics, the Indian badminton queen has her eyes set on the next Summer Games in Paris. When quizzed whether she already had her eyes on Paris, she replied, “Definitely yes, Definitely.”
