Sania Mirza has penned a beautiful note for Rohan Bopanna for his record-breaking spree at the Australian Open 2024. The good friends have known each other for more than two decades and have been carrying Indian tennis for the last 15 years.
After Bopanna won his maiden men’s doubles Grand Slam and became the oldest world no. 1 in history last month, Mirza congratulated her friend on fulfilling his lifelong dream.
Posting images of them together on her Instagram account, Sania Mirza narrated how the two had met each other in 1999 and joked about the fact they’ll be world number one in the years to come. They didn’t know that the dream would finally come true for both, albeit a little bit late for Rohan Bopanna. She wrote:
“If someone told the two kids that played the mixed doubles at the nationals 25 years ago that we’d both be number 1 in the world one day, we would have thought it was a joke and laughed like we are in the next pic 🤣. Congratulations Ro .. you did it 🤗“
