The Indian challenge at the Mumbai Open 2024 may be over, but the WTA 125K tournament has seen Sahaja Yamalapalli and Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty reach their career-high ranks. The two young Indian talents suffered three-set losses in the round of 16 but managed to bolster their ranking after a successful week.
23-year-old Sahaja Yamalapalli entered the event ranked 336 and has moved 14 spots up to 322 after beating top seed and world number 92 Kayla Day in the first round and losing to Polina Kudermetova in the second round to bow out of the tournament.
On the other hand, 22-year-old Bhamidipaty reached the main draw after beating Valentini Grammatikopoulou and Viktória Morvayová in the qualifiers. She then beat second seed Nao Hibino but failed a tough defeat at the hands of future star and 16-year-old Alina Korneeva.
Following her second-round run at the Mumbai Open 2024, she has moved up 45 spots from 520 to 475 and gained her career-high rank.
Apart from these two, 27-year-old Rutuja Bhosale moved up 17 spots from 346 to 329 after her round-of-16 loss to eighth seed Katie Volynets. Meanwhile, India’s top-ranked singles player, Ankita Raina, saw no moment in her ranking (223) following her first-round exit.
