Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic? Nadal picks the best player in history

Rafael Nadal who was sidelined with an injury during the Australia Open 2024, will return to the court in the Indian Wells

Rafael Nadal conceded that Novak Djokovic holds the title of the “best” in tennis history, acknowledging Djokovic’s superior physical condition over the years and the undeniable statistics. Djokovic surpassed Nadal in Grand Slam victories in 2023, now leading with 24 titles, while Nadal trails with 22, followed by Federer with 20.

Additionally, Djokovic boasts the most Masters 1000 titles in history and has held the World No. 1 ranking longer than any other player.

“Novak breaks the racket but at the next point he is one hundred percent, that’s why he is the one who has achieved the most in the history of our sport. The numbers don’t lie, I would say he is the best in history. He has had a better body than mine and that also counts,” Nadal said in an interview with El Objective de La Sexta.

Nadal discussed his rivalry with Djokovic, noting that Djokovic’s public image might not accurately reflect his true character. Despite projecting a negative image at times, Nadal believes Djokovic is a good person with his flaws, much like everyone else.

Nadal emphasized that he does not harbour resentment towards Djokovic’s success, as he is not one to envy others’ achievements.

The image he projects is worse than what he really is. He is a good person, with his mistakes… but much better than what he looks like. When I see someone so successful, I don’t like getting angry.”
