Overconfidence? Novak Djokovic snubs Alcaraz as his biggest threat at AO 2024

Djokovic is a 10-time champ at the Australian Open and has an 89-8 win-loss record at the Slam.

Will overconfidence get the better of Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open 2024? In his latest statement, the 24-time Grand Slam champion labeled that his biggest threats aren’t the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, or Daniil Medvedev but himself.

Some may feel that Djokovic is going over the top with this statement, but elite athletes like him often view themselves as better than everyone else, and their self-belief is often what takes them to the pinnacle of their sport.

Before his first-round match against the new kid on the block, Dino Prižmić, in his pre-match press conference, Djokovic was asked, “Who do you consider your biggest threat in this tournament?”

Shockingly, Novak Djokovic stated his name. The defending champion claimed that he himself is his biggest threat when it comes to clinching the Australian Open 2024.

Myself always first, and then, of course, all the other best players in the world. Any player is here with, I’m sure, the intention to achieve the dream of winning a Grand Slam. Some players are obviously more expected to go further than some others. It’s a 128-draw. It’s a Grand Slam. We know what a Grand Slam represents for our sport. It’s where every player wants to play their best tennis. Yeah, it’s exciting to be a part of another Slam,” Djokovic said.
