One of the best: Novak Djokovic reflects on record-breaking 2023 campaign

Novak Djokovic recalls on his record-breaking 2023 season, which saw him win seven ATP championships and three Grand Slams.

Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, has labelled 2023 as one of the best years in his illustrious career. Ending the year as the world number 1, Djokovic achieved remarkable success, becoming the player with the most Grand Slam titles in the history of tennis. His year concluded with an impressive record of 56 wins and seven losses, securing seven ATP titles and clinching three Grand Slams.

“One of the best years. I wouldn’t say the best, but one of the best. It’s one of the best seasons. I had a couple of years, I think three times, that I won three out of four Slams in a season in those years, I won more matches. ,” said Djokovic.

Djokovic’s notable achievements in 2023 include breaking Rafael Nadal’s record for the most Majors won by a men’s player and equalling Margaret Court’s record for the most Grand Slam titles. The Serbian tennis star emerged victorious at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and the US Open, with his only defeat in the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz.

“I mean, I played more tournaments. I was really feeling very dominant on the tour. It’s quite different circumstances this year comparing to all the other years because I played, what, 10, 11 tournaments this year” he added.

In reflecting on his outstanding season, Djokovic expressed that 2023 stands out as one of his best years, despite having won more matches in some other seasons. This marks the fourth occasion that Djokovic has secured three out of the four Grand Slam titles, having achieved the feat in 2011, 2015, and 2021.

He attributed his success to peaking at the right time and conveyed his excellent feelings on the court. Djokovic’s last defeat dates back to July when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.

“I just managed to peak at the right tournaments, at the right time. That’s what matters to me really. I mean, Grand Slam season, one of the best for sure. Overall, especially in the last couple months, I haven’t lost a match since Wimbledon. So, I’ve been feeling great on the court and playing really well. But it’s hard to compare,” Djokovic concluded.
