I don’t feel like leaving tennis: Novak Djokovic has no plans to retire anytime soon

Djokovic discussed his eventual retirement plans after his victory on Sunday, hinting that he wouldn't be retiring anytime soon as long as he was still the leader of the pack.

24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will turn 37 in May 2024. However, the Serbian is showing no signs of slowing down as the World no.1 on Sunday crushed Adrian Mannarino 6-0 6-0 6-3 to move into the quarter finals of Australian Open. After the match, Djokovic opened up on his retirement plans and his words will certainly make millions of Djokovic fans around the world happy.

Djokovic equaled Roger Federer’s all-time record for the most quarter-finals at Grand Slams, reaching the 58th in Melbourne. The world No. 1 produced one of his best performances of the tournament to beat Adrian Mannarino in just under two hours to stay on track to defend his title.

Djokovic discussed his eventual retirement plans after his victory on Sunday, hinting that he wouldn’t be retiring anytime soon as long as he was still the leader of the pack.

“I actually talked about it a few times the last year or so, that I feel while being No. 1 and still on top of the game, I don’t feel like leaving tennis in that position. I feel like I want to keep on going. When I feel that I am not able to compete at the highest level with the guys and be a contender for a Grand Slam title, then I’ll probably consider retiring,” Djokovic told the press on Sunday.

“But that can change, obviously. I mean, a lot of things can change. I’m not a teenager anymore. I’m a father and a husband. A lot of things are happening in my private life, off-court, that I enjoy, that require my attention, my presence, my energy. Yeah, I’m still really blessed to be where I am. Let’s see,” he added.
