Andy Murray on Monday left the Australian Open stage after suffering a defeat in straight sets at the hands of Argentine Tomas Etcheverry. Murray after the defeat expressed disappointment for letting the crowd down even as the spectators cheered loudly for him at the Kia Arena.
Murray was clearly the second best in the match, with Etcheverry dominating the British player in every set. He ultimately went down 6-4 6-2 6-2, crashing out of the tournament in the first round after five years.
Murray after the match said he was disappointed with his outing. He added that he has received the crowd’s support every time he played in the Australian Open.
“I think that’s probably the thing that today I’m most disappointed about just in terms of how I was probably on the court. The support the crowds here over the years have given me has been unbelievable. Particularly the last few years, yeah, it’s been great. Today they all showed up again & gave me brilliant support. I didn’t give enough. I felt like I didn’t give enough back & I’m disappointed with that because they have helped me a lot over the years in matches here,” Murray said.
“They were definitely there to try to do that again for me today. I didn’t use the crowd & their support to my advantage like I should have done. I’m disappointed with that,” Murray added.
