Gurugram Open: Ankita Raina wins Doubles title but loses in Singles semi-final

Ankita and Zhibek Kulambayeva teamed up to win the women's doubles championship. The Indo-Kazakh duo easily defeated Justina Mikulskyte and Jacqueline Cabaj Awad of Sweden in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Despite losing in the singles semifinals of the ITF Women’s Open, Gurugram W35 on Saturday, Ankita Raina of India emerged victorious in the Women’s Doubles competition. Rain clouded the day, and the top two seeds fell out of the singles draw.

In the Saturday singles semifinals at The Tennis Project, second seed Ankita Raina of India lost to the unseeded Korean Yeonwoo Ku 6-7(4), 3-6, while top seed Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia was defeated by third seed Justina Mikulskyte of Lithuania in a hard three-setter 4-6, 2-6, 7-6(0).

Afterwards, Ankita and Zhibek Kulambayeva teamed up to win the women’s doubles championship. The Indo-Kazakh duo easily defeated Justina Mikulskyte and Jacqueline Cabaj Awad of Sweden in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. For their efforts, the winners received US $1437 and 35 WTA points, while the runners-up received US $719 and 23 WTA points.

Doubles Final: 1-Zhibek Kulambayeva (KAZ)/Ankita Raina bt Jacqueline Cabaj Awad (SWE)/Justina Mikulskyte (LTU) 6-4, 6-2.
