Svitolina delighted to have Wozniacki back after beating her in ‘Battle of Mothers’

Svitola and Wozniacki last played each other in 2018.

After beating Caroline Wozniacki at the Auckland Open 2024, Elina Svitolina has expressed delight to have her old foe back on the WTA Tour. Wozniacki had stepped away from tennis in 2020 and returned to tennis in August 2023.

With the former No. 1 and Australian Open champ returning after the birth of her second child in 2022, Elina Svitolina, a new mother herself, expressed her happiness to play with Wozniacki again.

Similar to Wozniacki, Svitolina took a hiatus from tennis to give birth to her daughter in 2022. The former world number 3 returned to tennis in April last year after a year-long break and hasn’t looked back since.

After beating Wozniacki 6-4, 6-3, in the Round of 32 at the Auckland Open 2024, Elina Svitolina said:

“It’s really special for me to get such a great win today against Caroline. She’s a great player. I’m really happy she’s come back. Finally we can play longer rallies again.”
