Caroline Wozniacki, the Danish tennis player and 2018 Australian Open winner, is set to make a remarkable return to the tournament for the first time since becoming a mother. Balancing her professional tennis career with motherhood, the former World No. 1 is determined to create harmony between the two roles.
In a heartfelt interview with Melbourne Press, Wozniacki shared delightful moments with her baby daughter, Olivia. Recounting a sweet exchange, she revealed, “She gets the fact that I play tennis. Yesterday I woke her up in the morning & I go, ‘Mommy has to go practice, I’ll be back in a couple of hours, we can do whatever you want.’”
Detailing the conversation, she continued, “She goes, ‘But Mommy, why do you need to practice?’ I said, ‘Because I want to be better. I want to win a lot more matches.’ She thinks about it. She goes, ‘Mommy, I’m really good at tennis. I don’t need to practice.'”
After coming out of retirement last year, Wozniacki showcased strong performances, reaching the round of 16 at the US Open, where she was defeated by eventual winner Coco Gauff. As she eyes the Australian Open, her first Grand Slam since returning, Wozniacki faces a tough challenge in the first round against World No. 24 Magda Linette, and potential matchups with top seeds like Jessica Pegula, adding to the complexity of her comeback journey.
