Australian star Nick Kyrgios deems his ‘time in the sport over’ amidst persistent injury woes

Amidst ongoing struggles with persistent injuries, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has made the candid admission that he considers his "time in the sport over."

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios indicated on Tuesday that he might be concluding his career in the sport, acknowledging the possibility that he may never return to the court due to recent injury challenges.

In a column penned for The Sydney Morning Herald, Kyrgios disclosed that he had engaged in discussions with his agent about the realization that he could be approaching the conclusion of his playing days. He expressed acceptance of this potential outcome, stating, “The reality is, there is a part of me that knows my time in the sport may be over. And I’m OK with that.”

While currently serving as a commentator for ESPN during the ongoing Australian Open and hosting his own talk show, Kyrgios highlighted his excitement about the prospect of life beyond tennis. He envisioned a future where he could travel the world, earning a substantial income by providing commentary on the sport and conducting interviews, such as those with Gordon Ramsay and Mike Tyson on his talk show.

Kyrgios has been grappling with a persistent knee injury that has kept him away from competitive tennis for a year. Reflecting on his situation, he noted, “Even the players on the circuit would love to be doing what I am doing now… They don’t have the global reach that I do. Otherwise, they would be doing it too.” While not officially announcing his retirement, Kyrgios emphasized that he stands at a crossroads, open to exploring new avenues beyond his tennis career.
