Australian Open: Spanish ace Carlos Alcaraz breaks records for fun after hard fought win against Lorenzo Sonego

Spanish Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz reached round 3 for Australian Open after a hard fought battle with Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 6-7(3-7), 6-3,7-6(7-3). But Alcaraz has achieved a fine record with this win. He has now gone past the likes of Novak Djokovic to hold the longest streak of among U21 players with most Grand Slam wins on hard courts.

With 15 straight win on hard courts against opponents ranked outside of ATP’s Top Carlos Alcaraz now tops the charts. Among other stats, Alcaraz now has 21 wins on hard court in Grand Slam. This now has levelled him with Andy Roddick in the Open Era.

The young Spaniard ace didn’t have it easy in his second round bout in the Australian Open. His opponent Lorenzo Sonego put up a big fight. Up next, the World Number 2 will lock horns with Chinese wild card Shang Juncheng who defeated India’s Sumit Nagal.

“I’m really happy with my performance today. I think both of us played a really high level, high intensity, the match was a little bit tricky with the wind and the sun,” Alcaraz said after his match.

Carlos Alcaraz Breaks Records Among U21 Players

The 20 year old who missed last year’s Australian Open with an injury is ready to fight for the title. “It was tough to play your best but we tried to stay there all the time, even if I lost the second set,” said Alcaraz.
