Australian Open 2024: Sorry, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, or Rafael Nadal, but you are not Coco Gauff’s favorite player. The Big 3 couldn’t come out on top on Gauff’s favorite player list, but rather a rising ATP star stood atop. That player is world number 4, Jannik Sinner. However, it wasn’t a voluntary decision Coco made, but a forced one.
Talking with currently injured Nick Kyrgios on the sidelines, Coco was asked who she would pick between Federer, Djokovic, or Nadal. However, at the same moment, Jannik Sinner was practicing behind Kyrgios and Coco. So, interviewer Kyrgios threw Jannik’s name in the hat as well.
Kyrgios asked, “Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, or Sinner?”
“Sinner,” she replied. “He’s on court. I gotta go with Jannik, because he’s standing right here!” Coco further added.
Jannik Sinner was practicing ahead of his first-round encounter on January 14 against Botic van de Zandschulp. The Italian is in fine form, making the final of the ATP Finals and winning the Davis Cup in November last year.
Meanwhile, Coco Gauff will open her Australian Open 2024 campaign against Anna Karolína Schmiedlová on January 15. Much like Sinner, Coco is in great touch. The fourth seed is fresh off a title in Auckland and claimed her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open in September.
