Tamil Nadu beat Mumbai: Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy champion Tamil Nadu cruised to a 54-run victory over Mumbai in their Vijay Hazare Trophy opener. Put into bat first, Tamil Nadu struggled initially with Dhawal Kulkarni bagging 3/45. At 179/5, it seemed Tamil Nadu would not be able to post a competitive total but then Shahrukh Khan walked into bat. The former Punjab Kings batter delivered a power-packed, stroke-filled 35-ball 66 including six fours and five sixes to take TN to 290/8.

In response, Mumbai struggled. Within the first 10 overs, Mumbai were reduced to 33/3 as Yashasvi Jaiswal scored paltry five runs. In the middle overs, Mumbai did accelerate the scoring but it wasn’t enough as Washington Sundar bagged 3/60 and M Siddharth scalped three wickets for 43 runs to bowl out Mumbai for 236 runs.

In absence of star players like Prithvi Shaw, Mumbai skipper Sams Mulani was the lone fighter, scoring 75 off 100 balls while Sairaj Patil hammered 42 off 35. But their efforts went in vain as Tamil Nadu lost the match by 54 runs
