“On recent form, Dinesh Karthik absolutely should play the perfect finisher’s role in T20 World Cup. When he was there, India scored 73 runs in the last 5 overs. He is scoring and he is scoring fast. So, I absolutely think he should be on the flight to Australia,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports during IND vs SA 5th T20 match.

Karthik was recalled after a brilliant IPL 2022 campaign as he played the role of a finisher to perfection. With the preparations beginning in the India vs South Africa series, his potential was once again in full display.

- Karthik has the best strike rate in the series.
- He also showcased why he could be the best option after hammering 27-ball 55 in Rajkot, helping India score 73 runs in 5 overs after he came on.

However, for Dinesh Karthik to confirm his place in Team India for the T20 World Cup, he will have to prove his worth in the upcoming T20 series. After South Africa series, the first task will be Ireland and then England and West Indies. The Asia Cup in Sri Lanka will also be the benchmark for him.
If he continues to perform the way he is, Dinesh Karthik will be back in the World Cup.
