Pakistan were the first team to qualify for the T20 World Cup, after their stellar start to the competition. Babar Azam’s side romped to wins over arch-rivals India, New Zealand and Afghanistan, before a dominant performance over Namibia all but clinched their place as one of the top two teams. The Men in Green have won all five games this edition in the group stage and will face Australia in the semi-final.
Australia meanwhile started off well, with wins over South Africa and West Indies, before being blown away by arch-rivals England. However, Aaron Finch and Co. bounced back to claim wins over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to make it through to the semi-finals on the barest of margins, with their superior net run-rate knocking out South Africa.

The two teams had incidentally met in the semi-final stage of the 2010 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. Then, Pakistan had set an improbable target of 192 for Australia to chase down, who did so with Michael Hussey playing a stunning innings. Australia eventually lost in the final to England, and the T20 World Cup remains the only title they are yet to win in international cricket. Pakistan meanwhile will be itching to pull off a repeat of the 2009 edition, when they defeated Sri Lanka in the finals under Shahid Afirid’s leadership.
