T20 World Cup: Dwyane Bravo on Saturday called time on his 18-years long international career. Bravo made his final appearance in Maroon against Australia in West Indies’ final Group 1 match of Super 12 stage of the ongoing ICC men’s T20 World Cup here at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Unlike Dwayne Bravo, who had clarified that this match would serve as his last outing in maroon, Chris Gayle had not made clear his plans for international retirement. However, the Universe Boss dropped a couple of hints in the match and reactions have already started pouring in for the illustrious career of both the Windies legends. Soon after the match, the players from both teams – West Indies and Australia honoured both Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle. Australia formed a guard on honour for both DJ Bravo and Chris Gayle as “Champion, Champion” was played in the background by the DJ at the Abu Stadium Stadium. Bravo made his international debut in April 2004 against England in an ODI in Guyana. His Test debut came in July 2004 against England at Lords. He also featured prominently in three world title triumphs – 2004 ICC Champions Trophy in England; 2012 ICC T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and ICC T20 World Cup in India.
Windies skipper Kieron Pollard refers to it as “End of a Generation”:
“it’s the end of a generation/era where you have some guys who have done some good things for T20 cricket, not only in the Caribbean but around the world. Sometimes one tournament you don’t want to sum up the entire thing when it comes to that but rationally these guys have done pretty well for themselves and we as people are very, very proud, ” said Kieron Pollard after the match.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) too congratulated Bravo: The ICC also congratulated former West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo for an impressive career. ICC Acting Chief Executive Geoff Allardice in a statement said: “Dwayne has been an outstanding cricketer of his generation, who has been popular with fans the world over. He was successful in all formats and is part of an elite club of two-time World champions.”
“His versatility and the experience of playing the world over have helped him gain an immense understanding of the game and I hope he will be able to find ways to stay involved in cricket. On behalf of the ICC, I wish him all the best for the future,” he added.

Bravo played in two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups, three ICC Champions Trophy tournaments, and seven ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. He was part of the sides that won the Champions Trophy in 2004 and the T20 World Cups in 2012 and 2016.
Bravo finishes with 2,200 runs and 86 wickets in 40 Test matches, 2,968 runs and 199 wickets in ODIs, and tallies 1,245 runs and 78 wickets in T20Is going into his final match.
