Swiss Open Badminton Highlights: Srikanth defeats Christophersen – 2015 champion Kidambi Srikanth started his Swiss Open campaign on a positive note. The World No.12 defeated Denmark’s qualifier Mads Christophersen 21-16,21-17 in the first round on Wednesday to advanced to the second round. Swiss Open Badminton Highlights: Kidambi Srikanth defeats Mads Christophersen of Denmark in straight sets, advances to Round 2

Srikanth started dominating his opponent right from the start as he led the first set throughout. However, it was not easy for Srikanth as Christophersen challenged him throughout. The 24-year old Danish went into the break trailing narrowly by 9-11. He however couldn’t go past Srikanth as the Indian was on top of his game. Srikanth soon won the first set 21-16.

In the second set though, Srikanth was pushed on the back foot as Christophersen started dominiating the proceedings. He was impressive with his cross court smashes and put pressure on the Indian. He went into the break with a narrow 11-10 lead. \

Srikanth continued to put up strong fight and it finally gave him result as he took the lead after the break for the first time with the score at 12-11. Under pressure, the Danish committed way too many errors by squandering shots in the net or hitting them away, giving Srikanth easy points. In the end the World.No 12 closed the game with a cross-court smash to advance to the second round with a 21-17 victory in the second set.

Srikanth who won the silver medal in the 2021 World Championships, looks to reinstate his career after multiple setbacks at German Open QFs and All England Championships second round.
