- Swiatek, who is the third seed in the tournament made a good start to the year as she reached the semi-finals of the Adelaide International.
- She was defeated by Ashleigh Barty in straight sets, who went on to win the tournament.
- Swiatek then made another semi-final appearance at the Australian Open. She lost the contest to America’s Danielle Collins in straight sets.
- In the Dubai Tennis Championships she made a second round exit after losing to Jelena Ostapenko in a game that stretched to three sets.
- She however made a comeback in the Qatar Open and was impressive throughout the tournament dropping just one set and defeated Anette Kontaveit 6-2, 6-0 in the final.
- At the Indian Wells Masters, she faced Anhelina Kalinina and Clara Tauson in the first two rounds and has to play three sets in both the games to clinch victories.
- She will have to bring out her A-game against Kerber in the fourth round.

- Meanwhile, Kerber has had a poor season so far. She featured in only two tournament this year which was the Australian Open and the Qatar Open and faced first round exits.
- She went down to Kaia Kanepi 6-4, 6-3 at Melbourne, while lost to Jil Teichmann at Qatar 6-4, 3-6, 2-6.
- At the Indian Wells she defeated Qinwen Zheng in the first round to clinch her first victory of the year. She then defeated Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 to reach the third round.
Swiatek vs Kerber Head-to-Head: Both the players will be facing each other for the first time on Tuesday. With her current form and superior ranking, Swiatek is the clear favourtite to win the contest. However, depite her poor start to the season, Kerber has performed well at the Indian Maters.
