India vs Vanuatu: Skipper Sunil Chhetri turns up BIG as Blue Tigers claim…

“Me and my wife are expecting and this is the way we wanted to announce it. This is the cliched old footballer’s way and I had to do it. I hope we get all the blessings and good wishes.” said Chhetri in the post match conference.

The player, who scored his 86th goal in national colours at the Kalinga Stadium, claimed June 11 was also their relationship anniversary and told his wife that if he scores a goal on the day, he will reveal the expected new member of the family. The ace celebrated by tucking the ball into his shirt and kissing his wife, who was beaming with delight.

The goal was not easy for the captain, let alone India, as Vanuatu put up a tenacious resistance on the day. The Oceanic side took use of their physicality and vexed India with deep-sitting defenders who left little space for the Indian strikers to work on. Several players had chances, notably the Indian captain, who had two open headers on each side of the half.

The goal came in the 81st minute, when left-back Subhasish Bose made a deep run down the wing, beating his opponent and delivering a wonderful ball into the box for Sunil Chhetri to knock into the net with his weaker foot.
