Rafael Nadal Surgery: Rafael Nadal has given a big update after undergoing hip surgery on Friday. The 22-time Grand Slam champion underwent arthroscopic surgery on his tendon to help improve his condition due to the hip injury that has kept him out of action since the Australian Open in January. On Saturday, he posted an update following his surgery. He stated that it would take him five more months to recover, which makes his return to the circuit within 2023 unlikely.

The Spaniard posted a picture of him on Instagram in which he can be seen resting on a couch, showing thumbs up sign on Saturday. He wrote, “Hello everyone! As you know last night I had surgery. Everything has gone well with an arthroscopy on the left psoas tendon that has kept me out of competition since January.”

He further added, “An old injury to the labrum of my left hip was also regularized, which will surely help the better evolution of the tendon. I want to thank doctors Marc Philippon, Jaume Vilaró and Angel Ruiz-Cotorro for their work.”

“I will start progressive functional rehabilitation immediately and the normal recovery process they tell me is 5 months, if all goes well.” The Spaniard also turned 37 on 3rd June 2023. He added, “Once again thank you for all the support you have shown me and that you show me every day. Today, also, on my birthday; not the desired or dreamed place but that’s life.”

Rafael Nadal’s presence is hugely missed at the ongoing French Open this year. The 14-time champion at Roland Garros missed the event for the first-time this year since 2004. Just ahead of the French Open Nadal also stated that 2024 will likely be his farewell year on the tour. “I hope to give myself the opportunity to enjoy next year, that’s probably going to be my last year in the professional tour,” Nadal had said.

Nadal’s prolonged absence from the tour this season has made him slide down in the rankings. He has never been outside the Top 10 since 2005. However his 18-year streak has come to an end as he is currently ranked 15th. He is all set to slide down further in the rankings.
