Madrid Open 2023: They year’s second ATP Masters 1000 event and first WTA 1000 event on clay court is all set to begin from 24th April 2023. The Madrid Open will have top players from the world battling it out. The Men’s draw though has been weakened following the withdrawals of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will headline the Men’s singles draw. Iga Swiatek meanwhile will be the top seed in the Women’s Singles. First Quarter 

Carlos Alcaraz leads first quarter

Seection 1

Carlos Alcaraz defended his Barcelona Open title last week. He now aims to defend the Madrid Open. He will begin his campaign in the tournament from the second round. Alcaraz will face the winner between Emil Ruusuvuori and Ugo Humbert.

Grigor Dimitrov, Sebastian Korda and Alexander Zverev are the other seeded players in the first section of the draws in first quarter. All the three players will begin their campaign from the second round.

Section 2

Andrey Rublev leads the section 2 in the first quarter. He is likely to set up quarterfinal clash against Carlos Alcaraz. The Russian is set to face either Maxime Cressy or Stan Wawrinka in the second round. He is likely to set up clash against 28th seed Yoshihito Nishioka in the third round.

10th seed Karen Khachanov and 20th seed Roberto Bautista Agut are also part of the quarter. While Khachanov is likely to face Thiago Monteiro in the second round, Agut will face the winner between Alexei Popyrin and Quentin Halys.

Casper Ruud headlines second quarter

Section 3

Casper Ruud had a disappointing Barcelona Open, where he bowed out from the second round. He is eyeing his second title this season after lifting the Estoril Open. The third seed will face a qualifier in the second round.Tallon Griekspoor, Pablo Carreno Busta and Lorenzo Musetti are the only other seeded players in the section.

Section 4

Holger Rune, who won the Bavarian International recently is the sixth seed in the tournament. The Dane will begin his tournament from the second round. He will face the winner between Alexander Bublik and Daniel Galan.

12th see Hubert Hurkacz is the next top seed in the section. He will face either Martin Landaluce or Richard Gasquet in the second round. 17th seed Borna Coric and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are also in the section.

Third Quarter

Stefanos Tsitsipas & Felix Auger Aliassime in third quarter 

Section 5

Felix Auger Aliassime is the seventh seed in the Men’s singles draw. He will begin his campaign by facing either Jason Kubler or Dusan Lajovic in the second round. Lajovic is entering the tournament after winning the Srpska Open.

Ninth seed Frances Tiafoe is also in the section. The American will take on either Tim Etcheverry or Adrian Mannarino in the second round. Another American in Ben Sheton and 24th seed Francisco Cerundolo are present in the section.

Section 6

After losing the final at the Barcelona Open, Tsitsipas is aiming to win his first title this year. He is the fourth seed in the tournament. He will be facing the winner between Kyle Edmund and Dominic Thiem in the first round. The Greek is in a relatively easy quarter. The other seeded players are 14th seed Tommy Paul, 19th seed Dan Evans and 25th seed Sebastian Baez.

Fourth Quarter

Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz in final quarter

Section 7

8th seed Taylor Fritz and 11th seed Cameron Norrie are the top two seeds in the seventh section. While Norrie will face either Corentin Moutet or Constant Lestienne, Taylor Fritz will be up against either Christopher O Connell or Filip Krajonovic. 21st seed Denis Shapovalov and 27th seed Miomir Kecmanovic are the other seeded players in the section.

Section 8

Daniil Medvedev is likely to begin his campaign in the second round by facing Andy Murray. While Medvedev begins his campaign in the second round, Murray faces a qualifier in the first round. 16th seed Alex de Minaur, 23rd seed Botic van de Zandschulp and 31st seed Jiri Lehecka are the other seeded players in the section.
