French Open 2023: The year’s second Tennis Grand Slam event, the French Open is all set to get underway in Paris. The 127th edition of the clay court major will begin on 28th May 2023, Saturday. The biggest miss in the tournament will be Rafael Nadal. The King of Clay will not be in action in this year’s French Open. Carlos Alcaraz headlines first quarter
Section 1
Carlos Alcaraz will begin his campaign in the tournament by facing a qualifier in the first round. The top seed is likely to set up clash against 14th seed Cameron Norrie in the fourth round of the tournament. The other top seeds in the top section of the first quarter are 17th seed Lorenzo Musetti and 26th seed Denis Shapovalov.
Lorenzo Musetti begins his campaign by facing Mikael Ymer. Shapovalov meanwhile takes on USA’s Brandon Nakashima in the opening match. 14th seed Cameron Norrie will be up against wildcard entrant Benoit Paire in the first round.
Section 2
Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is the top seed in the second section of the draw in the first quarter. Tsistipas will begin his campaign by facing Jiri Vesely. Tsitsipas and Felix Auger Aliassime are likely to meet in the fourth round of the tournament. Aliassime is the 10th seed and he will be facing Fabio Fognini in the first round.
24th seed Sebastian Korda and 32nd seed Zapatta Miralles are the other seeded players in this section. Mackenzie McDonald, who defeated Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open will face Sebastian Korda in the first round.
Novak Djokovic leads second quarter
Section 3
Third seed Nobvak Djokovic is looking to win a record 23rd Grand Slam title. He is the third seed in the tournament and is present in the second quarter of the draws. He begins his campaign by facing USA’s Aleksandr Kovacevic in the first round.
Marton Fucsovics or Hugo Gremnier will be Djokovic’s opponents in the second round. The only other top seed in the top section of the third quarter is 13th seed Hubert Hurkcz. The Pole is likely to face Djokovic in the fourth round. Spaniards 19th seed Roberto Bautista Agut and 29th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are the other seeded players in this section of the quarter.
Section 4
Russians Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov are present in the second section of the quarter. While Rublev is the fifth seed, Khachanov is seeded 11th. Both the Russians are likely to face each other in the fourth round.
Dan Evans and Ben Shelton are the only other seeded players in this section. Meanwhile, Thanasi Kokkinakis is also placed in this part of the draw. Kikkinakis has received a wildcard entry into the tournament. He will face Dan Evans in the first round. Stan Wawrinka is also present in this part of the quarter. The Swiss will take on Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas in the first round.
Casper Ruud and Holger Rune in third quarter
Section 5
Sixth seed Holger Rune will begin hios campaign in the tournament by facing Christopher Eubanks in the first round. Rune finished as runner-up at Italy last week and aims to extend his form in the Grand Slam event. Rune is likely to meet Gael Monfils or Sebastian Baez in the second round.
Ninth seed Tayor Fritz is also present in the same section of the draw and the American ius likely to set up a blockbuster clash against Holger Rune in the fourth round. Fritz faced Michael Mmoh in the first round. 23rd seed Franisco Cerundolo and 31st seed Miomir Kecmanovic are the other seeded players in this section of the draw.
Section 6
Fourth seed Casper Ruud leads the other section of the draw. Ruud, who finished as runner-up in last year’s edition enters the tournament this year as the fourth seed. He faces a qualifier in the first round. 16th seed Tommy Paul, 21st seed Jan Lennard Struff and 25th seed Botic van de Zandschulp are part of the quarter. Jan Lennard Struff and Jiri Lehecka will face win the first round.
Daniil Medvedev headlines fourth quarter
Section 7
Eighth seed Jannik Sinner is leading the top half of the final quarter. The Italian will face France’s Alexandre Muller in the first round. This part of the draw also has Alexander Zverev. Zverev bowed out from the semifinal of the tournament after suffering a gruesome injury while playing against Rafael Nadal. He is the 22nd seed in this year’s edition. The German will face Lloyd Harris in the first round.
12th seed Frances Tiafoe is also in this quarter and he might set up clash against Zverev in the third round of the tournament. Tiafoe faces Filip Krajinovic in the first round. 28th seed Grigor Dimitrov is the only other seeded player. He begins his campaign by facing a qualifier.
Section 8
Second seed Daniil Medvedev leads the final quarter of the draws. Medvedev will be facing a qualifier in the first round. The next top seeded payer in the section of the quarter is 15th seed Borna Coric. The Croatiaon will take on Federico Coria in the first round. Coric is expected to set up clash against Medvedev in the fourth round.
Former US Open champion Dominic Thiem is also present in this quarter. The unseeded Austrian will play against Pedro Cachin in the first round. 18th seed Alex de Minaur and 27th seed Yoshihito Nishioka are the other two seeded player in the quarter.
Women’s Singles Draws
Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff in first quarter
Section 1
Top seed Iga Swiatek is in the first quarter of the draws. The defending champion has her World No.1 ranking on the line. She will begin her French Open campaign by facing Spain’s Cristina Bucsa in the first round. The next top seed in the top section of the quarter is 13th seed Barbora Krejcikova. Swiatek ans Krejcikova are likely to meet in the fourth round.
Swiatek also is expected to face challenge from Coco Gauff in the quarterfinal and Elena Rybakina in the semifinal as all the players are present in the same half of the draw. In the top section of the first half other seeded players are Viktoria Azarenka and Marie Bouzkova.
Section 2
Coco Gauff, who finished as runner-up last year leads the second half of the first quarter. The sixth seed will begin her campaign against Spain’s Rebeka Masarova. She is likely to face 11th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the fourth round.
25th seed Anhelina Kalinina, who finished as runner-up at Italian pen is also part of this section of the draw. Kalinina faces France’s Diane Perry in the first round. 20th seed Madison Keys is also present in this section.
Elena Rybakina leads second quarter
Section 3
Reigning Wimbledon Champion Elena Rybakina is one of the favourites in the upcoming French Open. She enters the tournament as the fourth seed. Rybakina will be facing a qualifier in the first round. Rybakina will face the winner between Linda Noskova and Danka Kovinic in the first round.
14th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, 23rd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and 32nd seed Shelby Rogers are the seeded players in the top section of the second quarter.
Section 4
Seventh seed Ons Jabeur leads the second half of the second quarter. The Tunisian is likely to set up clash against Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinal. Jabeur will begin her French Open campaign by facing Lucia Bronzetti in the opening round.
Petra Kvitova is also present in this section. The 10th seed will be facing Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the first round. 22nd seed Donna Vekic, 30th seed Sorana Cirstea, Anett Kontaveit are the other notable players in this part of the quarter.
Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari in third quarter
Section 5
Maria Sakkari and Belinda Bencic, who are seeded eighth and 12th are the top seeds in the top-half of the third quarter. While Sakkari faces Karolina Muchova in the first round, Belinda Bencic will face a qualifier.
Bencic and Sakkari are likely to set up clash in the fourth round. However there are other seeded players like 21st seed Magda Linette and 27th seed Irina Begu. 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, who is unseeded in the tournament is also present in the quarter. Fernandez faces Linette in the first round.
Section 6
Third seed Jessica Pegula is in the bottom half of the third quarter. Pegula will face her compatriot Danielle Collins in the first round of the tournament. If she sails past the American, Pegula will meet either Alize Cornet and Camila Giorgi in the second round.
15th seed Luidmila Samsonova is the next higher-ranked player in this section. The Russian will face American Katie Volynets in the first round. Another Russian in Anastasia Potapova and 28th seed Elise Mertens are the seeded players and both of them will be up against qualifier in the first round.
Aryna Sabalenka headlines final quarter
Section 7
Fifth seed Caroline Garcia will lead the top half in the final quarter of the draw. Playing ion front of her home crowd, the Frenchwoman will aim for a deep-run in the tournament. She is present in an easy quarter and is expected to reach until the quarterfinal without much hurdles.
She will face China’s Xiy Wang in the first round. Anna Blinkova or Ysaline Bonaventure will be her opponents in the second round. Ninth seed Daria Kasatkina is also present in the same half of the quarter. Kasatkina will face Jule Niemier in the opening round.
Section 8
Reigning Australian Open Champion Aryna Sabalenka is aiming to lift her second successive Grand Slam title. The Belarusian will begin her campaign against Marta Kostyuk. Sabalenka is in a relaively much easier half of the draw and is the firm favourite to go all the way to the semifinal.
16th seed Karolina Pliskova, 19th seed Quinwen Zheng and 29th seed Zhang Shuai also finds themselves in the final quarter.
