Priyanshu Rajawat had a nervy start to the game. Despite getting the first point of the match with a smash, net-errors and wide shots from him gane 5-2 lead to Nguyen. Rajawat slowly settled into the match and then took three points on the trot to level 5-5. Nguyen hit a wide shot soon, helping Rajawat take lead for the first time in the game.
Nguyen then played catch-up with the Indian as neck-to-neck battle ensued. Rajawat managed to enter the interval with a 11-9 lead after a service-error from Priyanshu Rajawat.
Rajawat began to dominate the contest soon after the interval. He took four straight points to extend his lead to 15-9. He didn’t even let Nguyen even a chance to make a comeback and Rajawat raced to a 20-12 lead. He quickly sealed the first game with a straight smash.
Rajawat’s domination continued in the second game. He took four straight points at the start of the game. Rajawat continued to showcase his attacking prowess and extended his lead to 9-3. Nhat Nguyen suffered a bruise on his finger and he seeked medical attention. Nguyen then made two successive net-errors that let the Indian enter the interval with a 11-3 lead.
In the second-half of the second game, it became a completely one-sided affair. Rajawat took seven straight points and took a massive 18-3 lead. A wide shot from Nguyen soon gave Rajawat 14 match points as he led 20-6. Nguyen managed to save three points. However a smash from the Indian helped him win the second game 21-9.
Priyanshu Rajawat now aims to become only the second Indian to win the Men’s Singles title at the Orleans Masters. The only other Indian to win the tournament is Anand Pawar. He won it way back in 2012.
