The Indian pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila cruised into the second round of the men’s doubles with a 21-13, 22-20 win in the first round at the Orleans Master 2023 BWF Super 300 Badminton tournament in France on Tuesday.MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila, seeded seventh in the tournament, beat Ondrej Kral and Adam Mendrek of the Czech Republic. The Indian pair started the game with a 11-5 lead. It was a largely a one-sided game as the Indian pair went on to maintain their lead and won the first game 21-3.In the second game, the Czech pair took a 7-4 lead and went on to maintain it and entered the interval with a three-point lead. The Czech pair lead 15-10 after the interval. However, the Indians made a comeback by winning the next five points. A wide shot soon from the Czech pair helped the Indians take lead.Neck-to-neck battle ensued between both the players. However it was the Indian pair who had the last laugh as they won the second game 22-20.

In the women’s doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa beat Ireland’s Kate Frost and Moya Ryan 21-9, 21-9 to make the second round of the main draw. Meanwhile, Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker lost to Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari and Ribka Sugiarto 21-14, 21-15 to crash out.

Meanwhile, none of the three Indian singles players in action on Tuesday managed to make it past the qualifiers. S Sankar Muthusamy, Meiraba Maisnam, Women’s singles contender Anupama Upadhyay all lost in their second round in the qualifiers.

The mixed doubles team of Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto entered the main draw after their opponents Mihajlo Tomic and Andjela Vitman, retired midway through their match.
