With that, the final edition of Women’s T20 Challenge also came to an end. The BCCI is expected to start a 6-team Women’s IPL from 2023, replacing the WT20 Challenge.

Chasing a target of 166, Velocity were off to a flying start with Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia adding 29 runs in just two overs. But then it was Deandra Dottin who dismissed Shafali to deal the first blow.
Soon, Yastika Bhatia and Kiran Navgire departed. Navgire was specially disappointing as failed to open her account off 13 balls after smashing the fastest fifty in the last game. With Sophie Ecclestone bagging two wickets in the powerplay, velocity struggled.

But their nightmare continued. Alana King joined the party removing Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana and Radha Yadav to all but secure the win for Supernovas.

However, Laura Wolvaardt and Simran Bahadur had some other ideas. They were not going to go down without a fight. Wolvaardt and Simran picked up the pace after Velocity lost 8 wickets.
Wolvaardt and Simran provided a great advertisement of Women’s IPL in front of BCCI top brass including President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah and IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel. The duo hammered Puja Vastrakar for 17 runs in the 19th over to take the chase down to the wire.

However, they fell 4 runs short with Laura Wolvaardt remaining unbeaten on 65 off 40 and Simran unbeaten on 20 off 10.
Earlier, sent to bat, Supernovas were off to a brilliant start with Priya Punia and Deandra Dottin stitching together a 50-run stand. After the 73-run opening stand, Priya Punia departed. But it did not matter. Harmanpreet Kaur took charge, smashing 29-ball 43 after she promoted herself.
However, then it all went downhill. In 15 overs, Supernovas were 131/2. But in the death overs, Velocity made a fine comeback. Supernovas lost five wickets for just 34 runs as they were restricted to 165/7.
