Sourav Ganguly Caught & Bowled: Virat Kohli makes displeasure known about losing ODI captaincy

Last week, Virat Kohli was removed from ODI captaincy as the selection committee wanted to have one skipper in white-ball formats. Regarding the decision, BCCI just posted a 131-letter statement along with Test squad selection.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward,” the BCCI said in a statement.

BCCI took 23 hours to post a congratulatory message on its social media pages while other office bearers congratulated Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli himself didn’t congratulate Rohit despite posting birthday wishes to his former teammates.

“Whatever was said about the communication that happened during the decision that was made was inaccurate. I was contacted one and half hours before the selection meeting on 8th for the Test series,” Virat Kohli said.

“And there was no prior communication with me since I announced the T20I captaincy decision up till December 8. The chief selector discussed the Test team to which we both agreed. Before ending the call, I was told the five selectors decided that I would not be ODI captain, which I replied ‘okay fine’,” Kohli further said.

“And in the selection call afterwards we chatted about it briefly this is what happened, there was no communication prior to that at all,” he added.
