Sri Lanka 258 all out (Asalanka 110, de Silva 60, Marsh 2-29, Cummins 2-37, Kuhnemann 2-56) beat Australia 254 all out (Warner 99, Cummins 35, Karunaratne 2-19, de Silva 2-39, Vandersay 2-40) by four runs

  • Chasing 258, Australia was 189/4, it certainly looked like a cruise.
  • Sri Lankan spinner bowled beautifully thereafter. Soon it became 192/7 in no time with Warner being one of those three wickets to fall.

SL beat AUS Highlights: Thanks to Charith Asalanka’s gritty century, Sri Lanka were able to put up a fairly decent total in the fourth ODI game against Australia. The left-handed batter 110 runs, banking on which the Lankans have scored 258 runs.

Earlier, Glenn Maxwell has struck first blood for Australia as Niroshan Dickwella was dismissed cheaply. Kusal Mendis also followed suit, leaving Pathum Nissanka and Dhananjay De Silva with tough task. However, last match’s centurion could only score 13 as he was dismissed by Mitchell Marsh.

Dhananjaya de Silva scored 60 runs to set up a 101-run fourth-wicket partnership with Asalanka, but his dismissal sparked a procession of wickets. None of the batters who came after him could even score 25 runs, as the fight was carried on single-handedly by Asalanka. For Australia, Matthew Kuhnemann, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh picked up two wickets each.

Chasing a target of 259 runs set up by hosts Sri Lanka, Australia lost skipper Aaron Finch for a duck. He was trapped leg before wicket by Chamika Karunaratne, but a fantastic knock from his opening partner, David Warner, saw Australia cruising towards the target.

However, Warner was dismissed on 99, which started the downfall of Australia. From 189/4, Australia found themselves struggling at 240/9m, with the likes of Jeffrey Vandersay and de Silva running riots. Cummins tried his best by scoring 35 runs, but the Aussies were four runs short.
