Recent reports have indicated that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is emerging as the frontrunner in the race to become the majority stakeholder of the club.
Unlike Jassim, Ratcliffe has expressed his willingness to retain the Glazer family’s involvement in the club. It is said that Ratcliffe has offered the current owners a chance to maintain a 20% stake in the club should the deal go through.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, it has been confirmed that Sheikh Jassim will have to raise his offer if he intends to outbid Ratcliffe in the competition for Manchester United.
‘Sheikh Jassim, via intermediaries, is expected to hold further talks this week, described by sources as in-depth. There is no guarantee his offer will be raised, but the feeling is it will need to be in order to stand a chance of succeeding,’ Jacobs wrote for Caught Offside.
‘Reports a bid has already been improved to £6bn are wide of the mark to my understanding. The official deadlines are gone and talks are more fluid now. So any bid would likely not be disclosed and be tabled in a less formal manner.’

Sheikh Jassim’s final offer is reportedly close to £5bn which he submitted to the Raine Group, the New York-based investment bank overseeing the sale of the club, on Tuesday.
