Pakistan’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Shahid Afridi is returning to cricket for the upcoming Kashmir Premier League (KPL). Afridi, 42, picked up his bat to train for the league in the nets. In a video shared on the internet, Afridi was seen batting at Diamond Cricket ground in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The video was shared with the caption: “Shahid Afridi during Practice Session in Diamond Cricket Ground Islamabad earlier today! #KPL2022.”

Shahid Afridi will represent Jammu Janbaz in the KPL 2. Janbaz are one of the new franchise in the competition and will make its debut this season. The star all-rounder is however unlikely to play all games to avoid injury. Afridi revealed that his doctors have advised him to undergo surgery which is why he won’t play all the matches.

KPL 2 will be played from August 13 to 26 at Muzaffarabad Cricket Stadium. Afridi will be amongst the biggest stars available for the tournament, along with the likes of Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Kamran Akmal, Ahmed Shahzad, and Mohammad Hafeez. Reigning champions Rawalakot Hawks will start their title defence against Janbaz in the opening match on August 13.
