Shaheen Afridi Injury: PSL 2023 – Pakistani lanky pacer Shaheen Afridi admitted that he contemplated giving up while trying to recover from his serious knee injury. Shaheen Afridi revealed his disappointment about his injury. What motivated him to continue to do the hard work was his previous fiery spells.

“Often during the rehabilitation sessions, I used to say to myself this is enough, I cannot do this anymore. But then I used to watch my bowling on YouTube and see how well I had done and that motivated me and I told myself to push a little more…It is frustrating for a fast bowler to miss cricket because of an injury.”

Afridi sustained a blow to his knee during Sri Lanka tour in August 2022. He aggravated it further in Pakistan’s loss to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 final in Melbourne. Since then, he has faced a lengthy rehabilitation procedure, missing Pakistan’s home season in the process. Now, the 22-year-old opens up on his injury woes and said that he wanted to give up but his bowling video clips kept him going.

After skipping the tri-series in New Zealand, Afridi was questionable for the major event in Australia last year. He participated in all of Pakistan’s games during the campaign before his knee started to give him trouble when he tried to make a catch in the championship game. A lot of people condemned the idea to force the young pacer back into activity after a second setback.

The 22-year-old had left the field during the final on November 13, 2022, after landing awkwardly while taking Harry Brook’s catch. Shaheen returned to bowl the 16th over but the unbearable pain forced him to leave after the first delivery. The injury had caused knee discomfort to the bowler due to a forced knee flexion while landing.

Pakistan desperately missed the left-arm pacer’s services as they went through a forgettable run of games in the longest format. The Babar Azam-led side suffered a 3-0 whitewash at the hands of England before grinding out a 0-0 series result against New Zealand. The recent set of results meant that Pakistan completed the home leg of their World Test Championship campaign without a single win.
