Sergio Busquets will be leaving Barcelona after spending 18 glorious years with Barcelona. He rose up from the youth ranks in 2008 and never looked back. He became the pivotal player in Barcelona’s midfield and remained their most important player in his position for 15 long years. He has made history as he helped Barcelona win two trebles. He also won the World Cup for Spain in 2010 alongside many of his Barcelona teammates. After a remarkable career, he is ready to leave the club.
Everyone has been curious as to where Busquets might go next. Many people are guessing that he could reunite with his former teammate Lionel Messi. When he was asked aboout such rumours, he said, “My future linked to Messi’s? Everyone wants to play with Leo, he is the best in the world. But my future is not linked to Leo’s future. I haven’t signed anything yet. There is interest from several clubs but I won’t make a decision until the end of the season, now it’s time to enjoy!”
Busquets will have a better last season at Barcelona compared to the hardships the club was going through in the last few seasons. As the captain he just lifted the La Liga trophy after 4 years of waiting. Barcelona are headed for the Champions League next season and they will have to fill the Busquets-sized void as soon as possible. In the meantime, Busquets might be leaving Europe altogether if the rumours are to be believer. However, no solid news on his move has come to light yet.

There have been rumours that Al-Hilal have offered Leo Messi around $500 million per year salary. Additionally, they are planning on bringing over Sergio Busquets to the Saudi club to reunite the players. There was also a rumour that he could move to the United States to play in the MLS. A move for Messi to the David Beckham co-owned MLS club Inter Miami is also in the cards. Hence, Busquets could be heading there as well.
Fans also believed that Busquets would have stayed and signed a deal for another season at Barcelona if the club could have secured Messi’s transfer to the club. However, Messi’s transfer to Barcelona still hanging in the air as Barcelona are yet to receive the green signal from La Liga. They will not be able to bring the Argentine back to Spain if La Liga do not approve that the club is financially secure to bring Messi.
