IPL 2023: PBKS vs DC: After LSG skipper Krunal Pandya’s potential tactical move to get retired hurt got viral on social media, a similar move by Punjab Kings’ Atharva Taide got the appreciation from fans on Wednesday. In the do-or-die clash against Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium, batter Atharva Taide got retired out to give a chance to a more explosive batter to come to the crease in chase of 214. Taide was batting impressively, scoring 55 runs off 42 balls when the decision was made to retire him out to get in-from Jitesh Sharma at the crease. While Krunal Pandya’s decision to get back in the dugout was officially termed as retired hurt due to the all-rounder’s injury, Taide’s move was officially termed as retired hurt, which made him only the second cricketer to be retired out in IPL history.

Rajasthan Royals’ Ravichandran Ashwin was the first player to pull off that move last year.

However, Taide’s decision didn’t end in PBKS’ favour as Sharma was dismissed without scoring a run on just his third ball. The Punjab side eventually lost the game by 15 runs despite Liam Livingstone’s stunning knock of 94.

What is retired out?

A player is considered retired out if they voluntarily retire their innings without seeking the umpire’s permission and are unable to resume their innings thereafter.
