San Diego Open LIVE: Top seed  Iga Swiatek will begin her campaign at the San Dieo Open by facing 20-year old Qinwen Zheng in the second round on Wednesday. World No.1 Swiatek enters the tournament after finishing as runner-up at the Ostrava Open last week. Meanwhile Zheng qualified for the main draw of the tournament as a lucky loser and enters the second round after her opponent Garbine Muguruza withdrew from the first round due to an injury.   • World No.1 Iga Swiatek enjoyed a terrific run in the first-half of the season this year by dominating the WTA Tour with a dream run of winning 37 consecutive matches.
  • During her unbeaten run, she won the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open, Italian Open and French Open.
  • However her run came to an end during the Wimbledon this year, where she lost in the third round against Alize Cornet in straight sets.
  • Since then she failed to go past the quarterfinal at her home tournament in Poland Open and bowed out from the second round at Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters.
  • At the US Open she came back to form and won her maiden title at the year end Grand Slam event.
  • After the US Open she returned to action at the Ostrava Open last week whete she finished as runner-up after losing the final to Barbara Krejcikova.
  • Having received a bye to the second round at the San Diego Open , she is now all set to begin her campaign.

  • Qinwen Zheng had a good season as she made a drastic improvement in her rankings. Currently ranked World No.28, the Chinese started the year by reaching the semifinals at the Melbourne Open.
  • She then had to play the Australian Open qualifiers and advanced to the main draw of a Grand Slam event for the first time in her career.
  • She defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round but bowed out of the competition after losing to Maria Sakkari in the second round.
  • She then failed to go past the second round in the subsequent tournaments. She started the clay court season with a second round appearance at the Charleston Open.
  • At the French Open, she made it to the fourth round for the first time in her career and eventually lost to Iga Swiatek in three sets.
  • She started the grass court season with first round defeats at Berlin Grass court championship and Eastbourne International.
  • At the Wimbledon, she made it to the third round where she lost to eventual champion Elena Rybakina.
  • In her maiden appearance at the US Open, she bowed out from teh third round.
  • Before the San Dideo Open, she finished as runner-up at the Japan Open. However, he had to play in the qualifiers at San Diego Open and despite losing in the second round, she managed to enter the main draw as a lucky loser after the withdrawal of Elena Rybakina.
  • In the first round she faced Garbine Muguruza and led 5-0 in the first set before her opponent withdrew from the contest due to injury.

Swiatek vs Zheng Head-to-Head: Both the players are set to face each other for the second time in their career. Their first meeting was at the Roland Garros where the Chinese pushed the match into the third set before Swiatek managed to win it. The Polish can once again expect a good fight from the 20-year old Zheng in the upcoming contest.
