SA20 vs IPL LOGOS: The 1st look at the LOGOS clearly justifies BCCI official’s irritation. The LOGOS look completely identical other than change of the name. According to the contracts with the IPL Franchises, the BCCI cannot exactly object to the IPL franchises’ presence in foreign leagues. Though they can surely come hard on them on account of clause of ‘DILUTION of IPL BRAND’.
When asked if some action will be taken against the franchises – the BCCI official confirmed that ‘we will 100% have call with these teams”.
At this point, three IPL teams – Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals – are part of the UAE league (ILT20). Six teams – Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, SunRisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals – are part of the league in South Africa (SA20).
In fact, all six teams in SA20 are IPL subsidiaries and it is being seen as a mini-IPL. Besides, in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), two IPL franchises – Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings – are participating.
South Africa T20 League starts on 10th January. The BCCI live streaming partner Viacom is also the BROADCAST partner for CSA’S T20 League.
Viacom18 Sports has successfully acquired broadcast rights of SA20 League for 10 years. Voot & Jio Cinema will live stream he league. As per reports, the Reliance-backed company will pay around $10 million each year for the T20 league.
