West Indies made a strong start on Day 3 by picking up five wickets thanks largely to pacer Kyle Mayers who removed Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi in the first 30 minutes. However the intensity of the West Indies bowlers went missing in the second half of the match allowing the home side to take control. Bavuma and Mulder added misery with 103 runs stand . South Africa also had a 71 run partnership with Simon Harmer for the 7th wicket.
West Indies were bundled out for 251 runs in 1st innings. Hence, giving a decent amount of lead to the home side. On Day 1, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first. South Africa had made 320 runs in their first innings.
