A day before the 1st ODI, South Africa decided to release Kagiso Rabada from their ODI squad for the series against India. Rabada had featured in all three Tests but will sit out of the white-ball leg of the tour in a bid to manage his workload.
“No replacement will be brought in for him as there is an extended squad in place in the Bio-Secure Environment (BSE), but George Linde has been retained from the Test team as an extra spin-bowling option for the series,” stated an official Cricket South Africa (CSA) release.

That opens up a golden opportunity for Marco Jansen. The former Mumbai Indians pacer was the second-highest wicket-taker with 19 scalps in the Test series. In Rabada’s absence, he is all set to make his ODI debut.

He might have retired from Tests but remains vital to Proteas’ batting department. In fact, he is a match-winner and can help Proteas avenge their ODI series loss against India 1-5 at home in 2018.
