Rohit Sharma 3.0 – Newly appointed white-ball captain, all bodes well for Hit-Man’s new chapter in international cricket

Rohit Sharma 1.0 – Lacklustre beginnings

Rohit Sharma was a shadow of his current self when he began his international career, struggling to nail a spot in the Indian team. His form dwindled and was dropped out of the World Cup at home, and monumental setback in his career.

  • From his debut in 2007 until 2013, Rohit Sharma averaged in the mid 30s
  • He only had two centuries to his name scoring less than 2000 runs in over 80 matches for the Men in Blue.
  • He hit another low when he managed just 13 runs in five games against Sri Lanka in 2012, putting his future in doubt.

Rohit Sharma 2.0 – Destructive opener and run-machine

In 2013, MS Dhoni promoted Rohit Sharma to the top of the order and the rest is history. Sharma formed a formidable opening partnership with Shikhar Dhawan and helped India win the Champions Trophy, before scoring a double hundred against Australia later that year.

He followed it up with a record-breaking 264 a year later and has been a consistent run-getter for the side. Rohit Sharma is one of the prolific run-getters in the world currently and his ability to score big centuries makes him a fine asset.

Rohit Sharma 3.0 – The New King of Indian Cricket

Rohit Sharam has previously captained India and his returns with the bat have been nearly excellent.

In 10 games as captain, Rohit Sharma has scored 542 runs, with two centuries, including a third double hundred. His average of 77.57 is better when he leads the team than what it was under Virat Kohli and the Indian team would hope similar performances continue.

Sharma led his Mumbai Indians side to five IPL titles in the last nine seasons, and the Hit-Man will hope that the silverware follows the Men in Blue.
