In the year 2017, at US Open press conference, a little boy named Izyan Ahmad, whose nickname is Zizou asked a question to Roger Federer that left everyone in splits. The question was “Can you please continue to play for eight-nine years so that when I can play you when I go pro?” Federer replied “yes” and Zizou went on to ask, “Is that a promise?” to which the 20-time Grand Slam champion replied “Pinky Promise”.
Five years down the line, Federer actually kept his word. In a video, it was shown that Ahmad was flown to Zurich along with his coach and the youngster thought that it was for practice match. He was at a Tennis club in Zurich when an employee called him by his name and asked if he could meet the manager who was a big fan of him. Ahmad was surprised with people knowing his name and soon a woman arrived with a T-shirt that had his face printed on it. Already overwhelmed with it, Zizou then went to the clay court where there were fans who chanted his name in unison. Ahmad was told, “All the young people watching you play finally against a worthy opponent. Here is your surprise.”
Then came Roger Federer and seeing him, Zizou couldn’t believe his eyes and had tears of excitement. The Tennis ace hugged the fan and said Welcome to Switzerland. We made a promise right? We’re going to play. Are you ready?” Izyan Ahmad meanwhile is leading the junior circuit in the US and he is currently the No.1 and is soon to enter the pro tour.
Meanwhile, Roger Federer is still recovering from the knee surgery that he underwent a year ago and is all set to return to action next month during the Laver Cup.
